On Kangaroo Island, you’ll see kangaroos and lots of other animals! This island near Adelaide has koalas, platypuses, and sea lions too. Explore its wild beaches and see seal colonies. Doubtful Sound, actually a fjord, is New Zealand’s second longest and deepest fjord, reaching over 1,300 feet deep! It’s in the southwest and stretches 24 miles past little islands and green, rainforest-covered mountains.
Dusky Sound is the largest fjord in Fiordland National Park, stretching 25 miles long and five miles wide. Captain Cook named it in 1770 when he sailed by at sunset.

Dunedin is a beautiful coastal town with lots of history. You can see rare yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals, and the Royal Albatross here. The town has old Victorian and Edwardian buildings from the gold rush days, and it’s home to New Zealand’s only castle, with great views from its gardens. You can also shop for crafts, artwork, wool, and leather souvenirs.

Step into the past as you walk by Wellington’s old Victorian buildings. Take a cable car up the mountain for great views or head to the beach. Explore the harbour and see where The Lord of the Rings was filmed. There are lots of places to shop for arts, crafts, jewellery, wool, and leather items.

Napier is known as the Art Deco capital of the world and a top place for wine lovers. After an earthquake in 1931, it was rebuilt in Art Deco style, like Miami Beach. Walk along Marine Parade, a pretty street by the ocean with fountains and gardens, or visit vineyards in the countryside to enjoy great views and a glass of wine.
Go explore Tauranga in the beautiful Bay of Plenty! There’s lots to do—visit the beach, see parks, and learn about history. Discover a village frozen in time by a volcanic eruption. Take a selfie at Hell’s Gate, a geothermal park with hot pools, geysers, and mud baths. The biggest mud bath is called Poutamu, the ‘stairway to heaven.’
